New, single-family home sales across America were 4.4 percent higher than October and 15.3 percent above the November 2011 estimate of 327,000 sales, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Of the 377,000 homes sold, 83,000 were in the West.
That level of activity in the West represents a 17.8 percent drop in sales from October, and a 13.7 percent increase over new, single-family home sales in November 2011.
Most sales were logged in the South, with 218,000 transactions for a 17.2 percent year-over-year increase in new, single-family home sale activity. The Northeast region of the U.S. had 27,000 sales; and there were 49,000 in the Midwest.
Across the country, the median price of a new home sold in November was $246,200; the average sales price, $299,700. The median price was $227,200 on a home sold in November 2011; and the average sales price was $267,900.
Some 149,000 new houses were for sale at the end of November, representing a 4.7 month supply.
