Ramsay St looks for good neighbours

EVERYONE needs good neighbours and now Ramsay St's off-screen residents need one more.

It will be lights, camera, auction when 3 Pin Oak Court, Vermont South, in Melbourne's east goes under the hammer on March 2 - the first time a Neighbours house has been offered for sale publicly since 1999.

On the small screen, the house is 30 Ramsay St and home to Toadfish "Toadie'' Rebecchi played by Ryan Moloney, who is now in the UK starring in Celebrity Big Brother.

Owner Faye Pierce is downsizing from the four-bedroom home she built with her husband in 1973. It was the third house in the street and features two living areas, a deck and pool.

In the mid-1980s, Mrs Pierce noticed a man photographing her home.

"Then we got a knock at the door from Grundys to say they were thinking of filming in our court. We all thought it was a bit of fun,’’ she said of the six-month unpaid trial.

Today, crews take over the court about once a week, while interior scenes are shot at Global Studios, Nunawading.

The mother of two laughed as she recalled the day a young Kylie Minogue turned up at their back door, during her first day on set, and politely asked to use the phone.

"I said to my daughter, 'just go in with her, you don’t know who she is'," Mrs Pierce said.

Owners are paid by producers FremantleMedia Australia and the new buyer will need to sign a contract agreeing to keep up the garden, avoid changes to the facade without consultation, and provide access to the park at the back, Mrs Pierce said.

"When I wanted some trees chopped down on my front lawn, they wrote it into one of the scenes,’’ she said.

Plans for a portable ‘For Sale’ sign are underway.

The significant fee is a closely guarded secret and will be blacked out in the Section 32 until buyers sign a confidentiality agreement, according to selling agent Mitch Palmer of Barry Plant Glen Waverley.

"Astute investors would be crazy not to have a look at it,’’ Mr Palmer said.

The property will be on the market next week for an undisclosed price and inspections are by private appointment.

RPData reported the year-to-date median house price in Vermont South is $650,000, up from $345,000 in 2002.
